Current(/latest) GRML/Knoppix d-i script release (31-05-2006):
GRML/Knoppix-compatible Plain Debian-Installer script
Current(/latest) mini.iso release (15-08-2006):
Debian Stable/Sarge Mini (netboot) CD ISO (8M)
Project characteristics:
- The aim of this project is to develop and offer new and alternate blindfriendly installers for Debian and/or other GNU/Linux distributions
- Our d-i script for GRML and Knoppix is a good alternative, it is Open, GNU/GPL, flexible, easy, fast, userfriendly, text/dialog-minded
- Both the d-i script and mini-CD are blindfriendly and braille-friendly
- The script does provide an easy installer for some previosly partitionned EXT disk (you don't need to repartition the hard disk later with another tool like Partman or so)
- Your Debian (/other) operating system is installable from within a Live-on-CD distribution (currently GRML and Knoppix)
- Portability:
The BlinDIA installer script is currently available as a "Plain Debian-Installer" who can be runned from within:
- GRML - An Admin and TextTools-oriented Live-on-CD distribution
- or Knoppix - The Mother "Live on CD" distribution
The BlinDIA mini-netboot-CD:
We have realized some workaround for the Sarge NetBoot installer; the BlinDIA mini CD comes now with some really blindfriendly extras, like:
- a long beep-sequence at CD startup
- the ability to enter short cheatcodes (max. 5 chars) to provide you with the apropriate braille support
- braille support on your Sarge system AFTER your 1st reboot
Download the BlinDIA mini Sarge netboot ISO here:
- The BlinDIA-Sarge-Mini.ISO
- The BlinDIA-Sarge-Mini.ISO MD5Sum-file
You simply boot now the Live CD with some cheatcodes like in this example:
grml vga=normal keyboard=be-latin1 brltty=al,ttyS0,de.tbl 'enter' or
knoppix vga=normal keyboard=be-latin1 brltty=al,ttyS0,de.tbl 'enter'
At the :~# prompt:
* you first download or copy the d-i script into the current directory,
* then you do a chmod +x if necessary;
* you also need to run fdisk or cfdisk -a /dev/hdX to split your HD as you
wish, if necessary,
* finally you run it by entering ./????-inst_plain_deb-'tab' 'enter'
The script is self-explanatory enough to help you with installing your new
Debian(/other) GNU/Linux system.
